Queensland Police record keeping error sees stolen cars confiscated from new blameless owners

 When Brisbane resident Sue Dunn saw blue flashing lights burst into her rear vision mirror, she immediately thought one thing.

"I must have been speeding," she said.

But the intercepting police had a different criminal profile on their radar for the 64-year-old grandmother — that of a car thief.

Confronting the exhausted health worker who was driving home from work during the pandemic earlier this year, the officers told Ms Dunn she was in a stolen car and asked her why she was behind the wheel.
