Queensland records 5,699 new COVID-19 cases as closed clinics lead to long queues for tests

 Queensland has recorded 5,699 new cases of COVID-19, but authorities warn there are likely more unconfirmed infections in the community, with lengthy delays being experienced at testing sites across the state. 

A total of 170 people are being treated in hospital for COVID-19.

Eleven of them are in intensive care, two on ventilators. Of the total number of hospitalisations, 36 are unvaccinated.

There are now 25,924 active cases in the state, but Chief Health Officer John Gerrard said authorities believed there were many more unconfirmed cases in the community.

Dozens of Brisbane parks to host off-road cycling facilities as mountain biking popularity soars

 Brisbane City Council has earmarked more than 40 parks and reserves around the city for new off-road cycling facilities.

The council's finalised off-road cycling strategy was submitted last month after much consultation with environmental and conservation groups concerned about proposals to allow mountain bikes into sensitive ecological areas.

But biking groups said they wanted to see dedicated tracks to support the sport's booming popularity and help reduce the number of illegal tracks in parklands.
